    Last Week in Games

The last week of prelims started with Saltypuffs Unite against The Three Boomsticks. This close game ended with Susan Bones getting her first Snitch catch of the season to end The Three Boomsticks’ winning streak that started in January. This upset also marked the first time that every team has won at least one game in prelims!

Next, Shacklebolts took on Dead Sirius, and shooting wise, it was a rough game as Shacklebolts missed 5 shots and Dead Sirius missed 2. But Ariana Dumbledore managed to catch the Snitch so Shacklebolts could win against Dead Sirus for the first time ever.

And the last prelim game was between Knockturn Alleycats and PatrOWNus. There were a lot of knuts on the line for this one. And though the Alleycats did a lot of beating, it wasn’t enough to stop Roonil Wazlib who caught the Snitch for PatrOWNus to win 50-30.

    This Week in Games

This week, Playoffs begin! Dead Sirius and The Three Boomsticks made it in as the first and second place ranked teams respectively. Tyrannosaurus Hex is in for most beats, and Knockturn Alleycats squeaked in with Best Use Of Theme. This is the first season since Season 1 where no team won all of their prelim games.

The first game, taking place on Monday, will be between Dead Sirius and Knockturn Alleycats. As mentioned, Dead Sirius, is the top-ranked team, but Alleycats is second to last, but this is the first time these two teams are in the final four together. They did play each other already this season, where the Alleycats got a sweaty whopping loss. Will history repeat itself?

On Tuesday, Tyrannosaurus Hex and Three Boomsticks will play for the fifth time. They’ve faced each other in playoffs several times with varying results, so this really could be anyone’s game.

The consolation game and the final game will take place on Wednesday and Thursday, although it’s not clear yet which game will be which day!

    The Sweaty Scale

The Sweaty Scale is back to assess your sweatiness. We’ve crunched the numbers again with an update on teams that got sweatier/cooler this week. After this week’s games, there were a few shakeups on the Sweaty Scale. The Three Boomsticks dropped by 7 percentage points to end prelims at 62% (tied with Hedwin for the coolest team), while Saltypuffs picked up those 7 percentage points to wrap up prelims at 60% cool. Shacklebolts slipped slightly to end behind Hedwin at 60% cool, while Dead Sirius flipped their 53% sweaty to 53% cool this week. PatrOWNus and Alleycats both got cooler in their game, with Alleycats clawing their way out of being the sweatiest team to wrap up prelims at 51% sweaty, and PatrOWNus saw an increase to 59% cool.

    Last Week in Games

The first game of the week was the longest…ever. Hedwin and The Three Boomsticks got all the way to round 37, meaning that for 7 rounds, the Snitch didn’t move at all. This allowed Hedwin a chance to build a wall around it, though in the end, they chose to catch and take a loss just to end the game.

Next, PatrOWNus and Tyrannosaurus Hex played. It was a close game with a sweaty start for both teams. In the end, Tyrannosaurus Hex won the game with the help of a tax receipt that allowed them to roll a d8 for Seeker movement. A lucky roll of a perfect 8 and the +2 speed on the Seeker was enough to make a lunge grab.

The game between $wagrid and Knight Busters didn’t go as planned. Knight Busters forfeited, so $wagrid won by default and played for stats, though they got tackled 7 times and outscored.

    This Week in Games

This is the last week of prelims for S11, and every game has the potential to affect playoffs.

Saltypuffs Unite and The Three Broomsticks start the week. The Three Boomsticks are undefeated so far, whereas the Puffs haven’t won yet and have had bad luck scoring.

On Wednesday, Shacklebolts will face Dead Sirius. Dead Sirius is also undefeated, but if Shacklebolts wins, they’ll also have two wins under their belt, so it’ll be a good fight for a spot.

And the last game of the season is between Knockturn Alleycats and PatrOWNus. Both teams have one win and one loss, so again, this game matters a lot. May the beans be cool.

    The Sweaty Scale

The Sweaty Scale is back to assess your sweatiness. We’ve crunched the numbers again with an update on teams that got sweatier/cooler this week. $wagrid and Tyrannosaurus each got a bit sweatier this week (3 and 1 percentage point respectively). PatrOWNus dropped by 6 percentage points to 55%, and what PatrOWNus lost, Hedwin gained as they climbed to 62%. The Three Boomsticks were the biggest winners this week, going from 57% cool last week to 69% this week 😉 to now be the coolest team.

    Last Week in Games

The week began with Dead Sirius taking on the Knockturn Alleycats. With 9 sweaty beans in a row and a plethora of other unfortunate events, it was not a great game for the Alleycats. They ended up losing 100-20.

PatrOWNus and Knight Busters faced off next. Despite PatrOWNus’ Seeker Winky getting +4 speed by the end of round 10, they critically failed 3 times against the Snitch, so the game didn’t end until round 17. It was 80-30 for PatrOWNus.

In the game between Saltypuffs Unite and Tyrannosaurus Hex, the Puffs had the opposite experience to PatrOWNus. Their Seeker, Xenophilius, managed to get -3 speed. That, paired with way too many misses on goal, made this a very long game. T-Hex put the Puffs, and Xeno specifically, out of their misery with a 40-10 win.

On Friday, Hedwin took on Shacklebolts. It was a close game with lots of back and forth scoring. In the end, Hedwin had a Hedloss with a score of 90-60.

Three Boomsticks and $wagrid played a predictably quick game. Lots of scoring and quick moves made it close. It was Sir Nicholas de Mimsy-Porpington who lucked out with a marshmallow bean in the last round that allowed him to take an extra step and lunge at the Snitch, securing a 60-40 win for Three Boomsticks.

And lastly, Saltypuffs Unite faced off against Knockturn Alleycats. Going into this game, these were the two sweatiest teams. This game was fairly even in terms of beans, but not in terms of score as the Alleycats pulled off a 60-10 win.

    This Week in Games

In their second ever game against each other, Hedwin will face Three Boomsticks on Monday. These two teams have similar rankings on the Sweaty Scale (see below).

Next, Tyrannosaurus Hex will face PatrOWNus for the sixth time. T-Hex has only won once before against this team.

And the week will end out with $wagrid against Knight Busters. It’s their first ever game against each other and the last prelim game for them both, so it’ll be their last chance to earn a playoff spot.

    The Sweaty Scale

Now that every team has played at least one game, it’s time to answer the questions that have been on everyone’s minds: how sweaty is everyone else compared to my team? How cool is my team? We’ve crunched the numbers and are introducing the Sweaty Scale to tell you who is the sweatiest and who is the coolest (and every team in between).

    Last Week in Games

Tyrannosaurus Hex and Dead Sirius had the season opener. It started out as a pretty sweaty game, and Dead Sirius didn’t have the best of luck when it came to scoring either, but they managed to fight their way back and even catch the Snitch to win 80-50.

Game 2 was between Knight Busters and Shacklebolts. Both teams missed a lot, as it was almost an hour in before there was a goal. In the end, the Knight Busters busted out a winning Snitch catch, ending the game at 50-40.

$wagrid and Hedwin closed out the week with a Friday game. These two teams went back and forth scoring 4 goals each, so it came down to the Seekers. In the final round, $wagrid’s Seeker had -2 Accuracy, so rather than attempt Snitch grabs, they chose to block Hedwin’s Seeker. However, Hedwin managed to beat $wagrid out of the way and catch the Snitch.

    This Week in Games

This week is basically a rematch of a bunch of S9 games.

It starts with Knockturn Alleycats facing Dead Sirius. In S9, Dead Sirius won. In fact, the Alleycats have only won against Dead Sirius once…in S2 when Dead Sirius forfeited.

On Tuesday, PatrOWNus and Knight Busters will play their second game ever. In that previous game, no one scored, so here’s hoping the hoops see more action this time around.

Saltypuffs and Tyrannosaurus Hex will play their fourth game against each other. T-Hex has won every one of those.

Hedwin and Shacklebolts play on Friday. This is their 7th face off, though it’ll be the first with Hedwin as the team name.

And lastly, Three Boomsticks and $wagrid will play on Saturday for the second time. In S9, Three Boomsticks won. These two teams are known for their reasonably fast gameplay, so they may not have a lot of time to make mistakes.

    Team Overview

Normally, at this point in the season, we’re dissecting stats right after the draft, but this season features base stats to start, so everyone is on an even playing field when it comes to the characters.

This did mean that teams were able to draft not for stats but for themes. SaltyPuffs Unite aimed for an all Hufflepuff team (and managed to trade for their beloved Susan Bones from Knight Busters after the draft), PatrOWNus went for a team with funny names, the Three Boomsticks stuck with the classic ghost theme, and the Knockturn Alleycats maintained an all girls team. Now it’s up to the beans…

    This Week in Games

Tyrannosaurus Hex and Dead Sirius will start the season on Wednesday. These two teams have only ever played each other twice before (S7 and S9). They were on the same Winter Quidlympics team but will need to be ruthless here in S11.

Thursday will see two purple teams face off for the first time ever: Knight Busters and Shacklebolts.

And on Friday, $wagrid will play Hedwin (formerly Ravenclobber). Last season, Ravenclobber beat $wagrid, so the pressure is on.
